Driven is a mentoring program for young men ages 18-25 who need help obtaining reliable transportation and are interested in doing what is necessary to pursue a career. Participants, called Drivers, will go through 8-11 weeks of mentoring that include career planning, financial management, getting a bank account, getting financial aid for school, fatherhood, generational dynamics, job interview techniques and general car maintenance. During the 8-11 weeks of mentoring, we do a financial analysis with each young man, and ask them to put down a $300-900 deposit towards a car based on their financial situation. After receiving the car, if they continue to meet with their mentor 24 times in one year, we will refund their down payment.
If you would like to be a mentor or donate a car to Mission Amarillo, contact Jeff Parsons at firstname.lastname@example.org. Potential mentors have to pass a background check and must have 2-5 hours per week to dedicate to being a mentor. Car donations are tax deductible and all donors will receive a letter from Mission Amarillo thanking them for their donation to use for tax purposes.
