Thank you for your interest in helping the least of these in our area. A mission trip with Mission Amarillo can be scheduled to fit the needs and personality of your group. We are looking for people to come help us with mission opportunities during Spring Break, March 11-14, 2013, or Summer, June 3-July 26, 2013.
You will be doing Spring Break/Summer Kids Clubs at affordable housing communities and inner city churches throughout the Amarillo area. Groups typically arrive on Sunday and do the clubs Monday-Thursday. All groups during Spring Break will do a work project in the morning and a Kids Club in the afternoon. Summer groups will have the option of doing two clubs a day or one club and a work project. The work project is typically done in the morning with the Kids Club either being done in the afternoon or evening, whichever works best for your group.
We would ask you to arrive soon enough to participate in a short orientation Sunday night. We are working on our own curriculum that we believe best addresses apartment residents in our area. Spring Break curriculum will be posted by mid February 2013 and Summer curriculum by mid-April 2013. Since most VBS curriculum assumes some frame of reference for the gospel, we prefer groups use our curriculum.
Mission Amarillo will provide everything you need to do a club, including snacks, game items, craft bins, and curriculum. As I’ve mentioned, the curriculum will be provided on the website and everything else you need to do the clubs will be ready for you. Summer groups will also be provided with items for water games and will need to pick those up each day.
You have the option to be housed at the High Plains Retreat Center or at a local church. Please contact HPRC at (806) 499-3429 to talk about pricing, meal options, and make reservations. If you prefer to stay at a local church, please let me know and I’ll see if I can make reservations for you.
